The photos taken by early 20th century Russian photographer Sergey Mikhaylovich Prokudin-Gorsky are amazing examples of color photos. He started taking these photos in 1909 (just for some context, modern color film wasn't introduced until 1935.) It's jarring to see the subject matters in these vivid colors after being accustomed to similiar old timey photos in black and white or tinted format. More photos here.
